Dr Sarah Cox
Consultant in Palliative Medicine
Dr Sarah Cox trained in medicine in London then specialised in Palliative Medicine being appointed to a new Consultant in Palliative Medicine post at Royal Trinity Hospice and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in 1998. She is also an honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London and an honorary consultant at Royal Hospital Chelsea (for the Chelsea Pensioners). Her clinical work is in the acute hospital setting and in the community. She has had a special interest in palliative care of non-malignant conditions, including HIV.
She is passionate about sharing good practice more widely and has designed an innovative simulation programme to develop the skills of generalists in recognising patients at the end of life and holding conversations about the future. She led on the expert reference group involved in developing and piloting a national data collection for palliative care including outcome measures. For the last three years she has lead a regional group to support improvements in palliative and end of life care across West London. Sarah chairs the Specialist Palliative Medicine group at the Royal College of Physicians and is an executive member of the national speciality group for Palliative Medicine in the UK and Ireland.
