Dr Alison Coackley
Consultant in Palliative Medicine at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Merseyside UK since 2003, having graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 1987.
She is passionate about education and training in palliative and end of life care for doctors working both in and outside the specialty. She was the Training Programme Director for Palliative Medicine in Merseyside for ten years and has been Chair of the Specialty Advisory Committee for 4 years. She has helped to lead the delivery and development of specialty training for Palliative Medicine across the UK and coordinate the specialty response to Shape of Training.
She is Clinical Lead for the Serious Illness Care Programme UK which aims to improve the live and personalise the care of all people with serious illness though supporting clinicians to engage with patients and have meaningful conversations about their goals and priorities more often and earlier in the course of an illness.
She is committed to the use of clinical audit to help improve standards of care and is Clinical Lead for the Cheshire and Merseyside Palliative and End of Life Care Network Guideline and Clinical Audit Group. This work received NICE accreditation in 2016 and has over 40 clinical guidelines related to palliative care available to support all healthcare professionals.
